Why is a fluorocarbon leader less visible to fish? It has to do with a material property called "refractive index". The refractive index of a material dictates how it interacts with light, and the difference in refractive index between two materials impacts how much light is reflected as light passes from one material into another. For example, the difference in refractive index between air and water causes the glare seen while fishing.
